The two stages of the treatment

The surgical stage begins with planning. An X-ray or 3D scan shows where and at what angle the implant should be placed, and whether bone needs to be added first. The titanium implant is then placed under local anaesthesia.

The prosthetic stage begins once the implant has fused with the bone. A healing abutment is placed, the gum tissue is shaped and an impression is taken. From this, a dental technician makes the implant crown in the laboratory, and the dentist fits it to the implant and checks the bite.

What one dentist in both stages means

The position and angle of the implant are decided in the surgical stage, but they determine which crown is possible later at all. When the same dentist does both stages, the position is planned from the start according to the final result.

For the patient this means one treatment plan, one price quote and one person to ask about the whole treatment. You do not have to explain your case again to a new dentist halfway through.

This does not mean that two dentists working together give a worse result. With close cooperation the result is the same. The difference is in how the treatment is organised and who holds responsibility for the whole.

Who carries out the treatment

Dr. Kristina Kiisa graduated from Karolinska Institutet in 1995 and worked as a dentist in Sweden, and in Tallinn since 1998. She trained in implant surgery and prosthetics at Goethe University in Frankfurt from 2010 to 2012.

She has been placing implants since 2003, around 5000 implants in total. The implant systems used are Straumann, Ankylos and ICX. Appointments are held in Estonian, Swedish, English and Finnish.
