Dental Implants

Tooth implants and installation at Kristina Kiisa Dental Clinic

The implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically implanted in the jawbone. Tooth implants are suitable for restoring individual missing teeth as well as for attaching dentures in cases of partial or complete toothlessness. The implant is made of titanium, which the body biologically treats as its own material.

Unlike other metals, the implant grows into the bone. Bone cells attach to the surface of the implant and this process is called osteointegration. The implant is operated on inside the bone and the graft is sutured in place for the healing period. After a 4-6 month healing period, the gum is reopened, impressions of the implant are taken and the technician fabricates the prosthesis, or teeth.

When to have an implant and who can benefit from it?

Implantation is today the best, safest and longest lasting way to replace and restore missing or extracted teeth. The implant will help prevent further jaw displacement. People perceive implants as their real teeth. For patients who have lived with removable prostheses for years, implants to fix the prosthesis are the best way to improve quality of life. Dental implants are surgically implanted. Prior to the procedure, we take 3D X-rays and assess the quality of the bone, the volume and thickness of the gums, as well as the client's general health.

Implants are suitable:

  •   For the restoration of missing teeth or dental crowns
  •   For people with good oral hygiene and enough bone to place the implant.

Contraindications to implants:

  •   Smoking
  •   Diabetes
  •   Osteoporosis

Implants will not be fitted:

  •   During treatment with biophosphonates
  •   In the case of oncological treatment
  •   During pregnancy

Smoking and diabetes are contraindications for implant placement, both of which hinder bone healing around the implant due to circulatory problems and reduced availability of nutrients and minerals. Also, implants cannot be placed during treatment of osteoporosis and its biophosphonates, during oncological treatment and during pregnancy. A more detailed treatment plan will be established at the first visit to the dentist, who will assess the health situation.

Possible complications

Sometimes it can happen that implants do not grow into the bone, i.e. they do not osteointegrate. There are several reasons. The most common are insufficient bone quality and volume, too short healing time, implant instability after surgery, excessive use and infections.

The success rate of modern implant systems is 85-95% within 5-15 years. If the implant fails to work, it must be removed, allowed to heal for at least 16 weeks and then reimplanted. Multiple implant failures are very rare.

A dental implant – care and recovery from surgery

A dental implant is surgically placed in the jawbone using local anaesthesia. The procedure is painless for the client. It is usually done 4-6 months after the tooth has been removed. Sometimes the implant surgery can be performed immediately after tooth extraction.

After the Surgery

The healing or ossification period before the teeth are attached to the implant is usually 3-6 months. In a few cases, it is possible to have a new tooth fitted immediately after implant surgery. If necessary, a temporary prosthesis is prepared for the healing period of the implant, which is not supported by the implant. After the operation, we will always provide you with oral hygiene instructions.

Home Care for Dental Implants

Once the implants have been successfully placed, it is very important to follow up every year with x-rays and an assessment of the condition of the gums and jaw, as well as proper oral hygiene.

Daily oral care at home will ensure that your implants last for years.

Why take implant placement at Kristina Kiisa Dental Clinic

Kristina Kiisa Dental clinic performs implant placement by an experienced doctor. We work only with high-quality materials, which have also gained worldwide recognition. We use the German Dentsply implant system and do not offer cheap Chinese implants.

Our dentist has more than 20 years of experience and education in implant dentistry in Scandinavia and Germany.

What does the tooth implant price depends on

Mostly, the tooth implant price depends on which implants are fitted. For example, Chinese implants are much cheaper, but they are not as high quality and long lasting.

The cost of quality implants compared to other dental care has remained the same over the years, i.e. implants are cheaper than they were years ago.

We always recommend that you check in advance which materials are available for implant placement. You will be able to find out the exact cost of implant placement at our clinic from our doctor after your first visit.
